Program Accomplishments

For the first time, during the summer of 2004, the Facilities Department hired a full-time Recycling Coordinator to manage recycling on the Boston and Medford campuses. Since 2004 there has been many improvements to the program.

Most notably, in 2005 Tufts entered the national recyclign competition, "Recycle Mania". With the exception of the "waste minimization" category, we placed in the top 10 in every category.

Recycling volume on the Boston campus increased 77,000 pounds from 2004-2005.

The Jumbo Drop program is expanding every year. Over 500 work hours were devoted to the program in 2006.

06-07 Initiatives

This semester several fraternaties: 123, Theta Chi and Sig Ep, joined the recycling program. The program is new and will require time to suceed. If successful we will expand to other interested Greek houses.

This upcoming spring we will be working with the campus custodians to increase collection of paper during student move-out.

The Facilities and Construction departments are working together to update construction standards. Recycling specifications will be added and evaluated.

The Facilities Department and Purchasing departments are working to improve the campus surplus furniture program.

Recycling Interns are attending campus "Hall Snack" meetings to educate students about recycling.

Semester Internship
