2010 Matriculation Luncheon, First Night, Food Fair and move-in cardboard box recycling

Composting

Tufts Dining, The Facilities Department and the Office of Sustainability, in coordination with the Orientation Committee have worked together to design the orientation lunch and First Night meals to be low in waste generation and to be compost friendly (i.e., no plastic films to contaminate the compost). VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! With just a few hours of your time, YOU can help make this year's matricultion zero waste efforts successful. Please give us a hand! Last year was the first time food waste was composted during freshman orientation. Read about one intern's take on the mixed results here.

If you would like to help us, please choose a shift(s) and click on the link to the sign-up page where you can sign-up. Please remember to put in your full name and email. We need many people so please consider getting your friends involved! The table below lists the shifts we need to fill and describes the type of work to be done.

1 Breakfast Station Monitoring

2 Zero Waste Station Set-Up

Setting up signs and bins
   
3 Lunch Waste Monitoring & Communication
9/1/10 12pm-2pm
Explaining the sorting stations to guests. Changing bags and ensuring the recycling stations are intact. Intercepting contamination.
   
 
4 Recycling Assistant to the Dining staff
9/1/10 1:00-2:30pm (or when job is complete)
Assisting with recycling during clean-up of the serving areas. Removing plastic wrap from boxes, recycling plastics, composting, etc.
   
5 Matriculation Recycling Monitoring, Compost Regulator and lunch Clean-up
9/1/10 2pm-3pm
Changing bags during matriculation ceremony. Rearranging stations for the dinner, tallying up the total volume of recyclables & compostables. Removing contaminants from the composting to ensure that the material will not be rejected by the recycling company.
   
 
6 First Night Zero Waste Team
6:15pm to close
