Choosing the Cummings School

Given the dynamic demands placed on today's veterinary students to be knowledgeable about such a vast number of species and to become skilled in the latest technologies and practices, Tufts' facilities and resources are unparalleled. I also sought out a school with a well-defined Master in Public Health program that allowed me the flexibility not to be pinned to a track system so that I could further explore any career interests that I may encounter but that would also allow me to attain my MPH within four years.

The Flexibility of Selectives

I use my selective time to take my MPH classes at Tufts Medical School in Boston. This flexibility allows me to achieve my master's within the four years that I'm working towards my DVM. The MPH classes allow veterinary students to interact with medical students, which breeds exceptional dialogue and exchange of ideas across professions in an effort to work towards the common goal of One Health. The opportunity for selective time allows the student to gain more experience in whatever specific fields of veterinary medicine that they would like.

Campus Life

It's great to be in such a prestigious academic environment. Many of the various clubs, organizations and programs sponsor lunchtime talks that bring in speakers who present on topics that range from demographics and market analysis in veterinary medicine (with relation to starting or purchasing a new practice) to elephant tuberculosis in Nepal to the US Agency for International Development: Global Efforts to Stop AI. As a busy veterinary student, the lunchtime talks are a fantastic way to become more cultured and sophisticated on various policies, technologies and current issues.
