About the Veterinarians CARE Program

Memorial gifts to the Veterinarians CARE Program support two purposes—the Dr. Stanley O. Travis Fund and the Fund for Companion Animal Health at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University. Veterinarians may support their choice of these programs with their memorial donations in honor of their client's pets.

Dr. Stanley O. Travis Fund

Injured stray animals as well as sick pets whose caring and responsible owners can't afford necessary treatments are the beneficiaries of a special fund created as a memorial tribute to Dr. Stanley O. Travis, an owner of the Wayland, Massachusetts Animal Clinic for many years.

The Travis Fund is not endowed. Each dollar donated is given out as financial assistance for needy animals receiving care at one of Cummings' teaching hospitals.

Fund for Companion Animal Health

The Fund for Companion Animal Health provides seed money to encourage and launch clinical studies in the Cummings School's Hospital for Large Animals and in the Henry and Lois Foster Hospital for Small Animals. The fund's goal is twofold:

  • to advance animal health through new studies evaluating treatments, prevention strategies and different approaches to diagnosing injuries or illnesses; and
  • to provide early support to residents and newer faculty members who can find it difficult to compete for external grants before their track record is established.

Grants are made through a competitive process.
