The Technician Symposium is scheduled for Sunday, January 25, 2009 in the Franklin M. Loew Medical Education Center (building D on the campus map). Susan Bryant (CVT, VTS-Anesthesia), a Clinical Sciences Supervisor at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, will be the course director. This conference is 5-7 hours of Continuing Education credit.

Procedures
Central line placement using single and or multilumen catheters via the jugular vein. Central line placement via the jugular vein using a cut down method. Peripheral vein catheter placement using single lumen over the needle and or through the needle catheters. Peripheral vein catheter placement using single lumen over the needle and or through the needle catheters, using a cut down method. Catheterization of peripheral arteries using a cut down method. Stabilization and suturing of the catheter.

The focus of this lab will be on monitoring techniques used in veterinary medicine and the technologies available to us. A how to approach will provide practical instruction that will enable you to make the best decisions for your patients. The lab will also cover how and when to use a ventilator as well as troubleshooting common problems.
