The fourth annual Canine and Feline Breeding and Genetics Conference is scheduled for Thursday, September 10 – Saturday, September 12, 2009 at the Sturbridge Host Hotel, in Sturbridge, MA. Jerold Bell (DVM), Director of the Clinical Veterinary Genetics course for the Department of Clinical Sciences at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine—and expert in breeding, pedigree analysis and genetic testing—will be the course director. This conference is 14.5 hours of Continuing Education credit.

The focus of the conference will be on inflammatory, immune-mediated and autoimmune disorders of cats and dogs. The conference is geared toward communication and collaboration between researchers, practicing veterinarians, breeders and breed clubs.

An international speaking panel will bring the top researchers in the areas of genome wide scanning (GWS), the major histocompatability complex (MHC), genetic testing, genetic counseling, and specific genetic disorders of dogs and cats. In addition to the lecture presentations, there will be four hours of discussion panels. One session will be devoted to feline infectious peritonitis (FIP).
