Group meets to develop new intervention guidelines!

On April 3, 2004, members of HARC as well as a half-dozen other experts met in Boston to develop an intervention tool to help agencies work better together to solve hoarding cases in a more timely and comprehensive pattern, with an eye towards achieving long-term resolution. The report, expected by December 2004, will identify the various stakeholders in animal hoarding cases, identify a range of solutions, describe a typology of animal hoarders, and suggest interventions which might be most suitable for the different hoarding subtypes.
Veterinary student wins public health award for hoarding proposal

From: Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Vol. 223, Aug 15, 2003, p. 423 A project helping veterinarians, social workers, mental health specialists, and law enforcement officers to spot and treat animal hoarders was the first-place winner of the 2002-2003 Hill's Pet Nutrition Public Health Award. Walker Jennifer Brown, a veterinary student at Tuskegee University's School of Veteinary Medicine, submitted the winning proposal and received a $1,000 award.
