VISITING PRACTITIONER PROGRAM

Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University is proud to be able to extend to the veterinary medical community the opportunity to participate in our Visiting Practitioner Program. Practitioners who wish to receive training in one or more clinical disciplines, to learn new techniques, switch areas of clinical practice, etc., are assigned to a mentor for varying periods of time. Visiting practitioners work along with the mentor, learning as the caseload of the service is managed, but they do not have primary patient care responsibility. A formal program with specific goals is developed for each candidate by the department/mentor. Because of limitations of space and faculty time, each request for entry into this program is carefully evaluated. Please note: Application does not guarantee acceptance.

The logistics of the Visiting Practitioner Program are coordinated through the Office of Continuing Education. Application to the Program is made through that office. The following basic requirements must be met to be considered for the program:

Credentials:

  • Participants must be licensed veterinarians (proof of licensure may be requested)

The application must include:

  • Completed application form Click here for Printable Application Form

  • Letter of Intent (This should outline which department(s) the practitioner wishes to visit, purpose of visit, duration, etc)

  • Two letters of reference
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Documentation of rabies vaccination or positive titer
  • Proof of negative TB test
  • Proof of current Health Insurance
  • Check for non-refundable application fee of $25, made out to Trustees of Tufts University

Specific fees for the program vary depending upon duration, intensity of training, and other individual programmatic variables. The standard fee is $200 (U.S.) per day. All fees are established through the Office of Continuing Education.
