International Veterinary Medicine

Developed in 1982, the International Program performs field-based research and service dealing with livestock and wildlife health in developing countries. Besides providing vital help to these agriculturally based societies, the International Veterinary Medicine section has done an exemplary job in teaching veterinary students concepts in working cross-culturally, understanding foreign agricultural systems and international trade issues, and controlling foreign animal diseases. Veterinary students sent to African, South American and Asian countries have accomplished a large body of this group’s work by performing field projects with wild and domestic animals under the supervision of the faculty. More than 150 students have completed research projects in over 25 countries. Members of this section teach the course entitled International Veterinary Medicine to first year DVM candidates along with a variety of elective offerings.
