D.V.M./M.S. with Tufts Center for Animals and Public Policy
This unique dual-degree program, administered by the Tufts Center for Animals and Public Policy, provides an opportunity for qualified students to pursue the doctor of veterinary medicine (D.V.M.) degree and a master of science (M.S.) degree in animals and public policy.
This program allows veterinary students to develop a detailed knowledge of subjects such as the history of the animal protection movement, animal ownership demographics, the development and implementation of animal regulatory policies, pet facilitated therapy, pet loss counseling, and animal-use facts and ethics. The goal is to prepare individuals for careers where a thorough knowledge of animal welfare issues and history combined with an understanding of underlying attitudes and values toward animals will assist in expanding their role as animal health professionals in the arena of public policy.
Students who choose from the appropriate selectives and devote a minimum of two summers to the joint program can complete the two degrees in four years. Information about the program can be obtained at the Center for Animals and Public Policy.
