General Research Interest
Although no longer actively engaged in research, Dr. Engelking's research studies and writings over the past 35 years have focused on a broad spectrum of both human and animal hepatic physiological control mechanisms. Included have been investigations of both exogenous and endogenous solute trasnport across liver cells, mechanisms of equine fasting hyperbilirubinemia, bile acid clearance and pool size studies in human patients with liver disease, effects of volatile anesthestics on equine liver function, comparative pharmacokinetics of lipophilic drugs in horses and humans, and enterohepatic cycling of drugs in ponies.
