General Research Interest
Research interests in my laboratory focus on three topics. First, using the marine shrimp, Penaeus (Litopenaeus) vanname, as a model to understand genome (nuclear and mitochondrial DNA) and environmental interactions on animal performance, we are developing a genetic map (ShrimpMap to understand spawning capacity and early development of shrimp. Second, we are developing a database of expressed sequence tags (ESTs) from somatic and germinal cell tissues of shrimp at different stages of development to be used for genome-wide expression studies using microarrays. Finally, work is ongoing using ESTs to map sex-determining and disease-susceptibility genes in shrimp and horses.
