Making a Gift

Special Programs and Projects

There are dozens of efforts underway at Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University that rely on private support. Here are just a few:

Oncology DoctorHarrington Oncology Program
The Harrington Oncology Program, established in 1996, has quickly become a premier clinical and teaching program of Cummings Veterinary School. Tufts' oncologists treat more than 4,000 patients a year with sophisticated surgical, chemotherapy and radiation therapy treatments. Gifts to the Harrington Oncology Program support clinical studies of treatment protocols and update equipment used for providing and monitoring care. Gifts can also support internships and residencies; Cummings multiplies the impact of the Harrington Oncology Program by training specialists who will provide outstanding cancer care through their own practices.

pony.jpegThe Travis Fund
Created in memory of veterinarian Dr. Stanley O. Travis, the fund benefits injured and ill found animals, and owned animals undergoing treatment at the Henry and Lois Foster Hospital for Small Animals or the Hospital for Large Animals whose caring and responsible owners cannot afford the full cost of their veterinary care. Many donors choose to remember their own pets, or the beloved pets of friends or neighbors, with memorial gifts to this fund. The Travis Fund is not endowed so it must be replenished on an ongoing basis. Every dollar raised goes directly to assist a needy animal.

Some Other Ideas
The Webster Family Library welcomes gifts to support the acquisition of books and periodicals.

The Henry & Lois Foster Hospital for Small Animals and the Hospital for Large Animals always have an equipment wish list.

The Pet Loss Support Hotline is staffed by volunteer veterinary students to provide comfort to individuals who are grieving the loss of a beloved animal companion or who anticipate the death of a pet. Gifts to the program support hotline and grief counseling training for the students.
