Matching Gifts

Matching gifts from your employer can often double or triple your gift to the Veterinary School. If you or your spouse is affiliated with a matching gift company, please contact your personnel office and obtain a matching gift form. Enclose your money gift form with your donation. The matching gift will be directed to the same purpose as your personal outright gift.

Gifts of Securities

Dr. Kirker-HeadAppreciated securities can make an excellent gift. Donors who give securities that have been held long term can realize two benefits: you receive a charitable tax deduction for the full fair market value of the securities, and, at the same time, avoid capital gains taxes on the appreciated assets.

Please note: The securities must be given to Tufts University; if you sell the securities and donate the proceeds, you will not realize these same tax benefits.

For instructions for making a gift of securities, please contact or have your broker contact:

Planned Gifts

By choosing the right planned gift arrangement, donors can realize any of a number of benefits — reducing income tax, increasing income from assets, securing retirements, increasing benefits to heirs and reducing estate taxes. And, above all, they are achieving their goal of helping the School of Veterinary Medicine! Tufts University Gift Planning Office is available to confidentially review your intentions and goals and to suggest appropriate giving arrangements. You should also consult with your own tax advisor and legal counsel to make sure that the arrangement complements your other plans. Below are brief descriptions of a few planned giving options.

  • Bequests : Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine is honored that many friends have chosen to make the school a part of their legacy. Your will is the document that creates bequests. Through provisions in your will, you specify what you want to give to the Veterinary School and the purpose of your gift.
  • Life Income Gifts : Charitable remainder trusts, gift annuities and other life income gifts allow you to receive income for life of a term of years. At the end of that period, the principal of your gift goes to Cummings Veterinary School to support the purpose of your choice. Life income plans allow you to receive an immediate tax deduction (for a portion of the value of your gift); avoid or reduce capital gains tax; and, frequently, increase annual income.
