New England Regional Biosafety Laboratory
The New England Regional Biosafety Laboratory (NE-RBL) is a 41,000 square foot facility dedicated to the study of existing and emerging infectious, diseases, toxin-mediated diseases and medical countermeasures important to biodefense. Scientists within the NE-RBL are conducting research to develop therapeutics, vaccines and diagnostic tools in a safe, secure, regulatory-compliant environment.
Information for Researchers
Investigators in academia, not-for-profit organizations, industry, and government studying biodefense and emerging infectious diseases may request the use of biocontainment laboratories. Information for investigators about research and collaborative possibilities with the Cummings School and the NE-RBL can be found on the Information for Researchers Page.
Capabilities
The NE-RBL's capabilities include laboratories for study of biosafety level 2 and 3 infectious agents, including select agents. In addition to BSL2 and BSL3 laboratory suites, the facility also features an ABSL3 vivarium, aerobiology suite, and insectary.
Investigators in the NE-RBL—members of Tufts University's Division of Infectious Diseases—are experienced in many areas of research including the biology, transmission, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of enteric infections and toxin-mediated diseases associated with food and waterborne illnesses and food and water security. The NE-RBL is available as a regional resource to investigators from other academic institutions and the private sector, in New England and nationwide.
Community
The Cummings School considers the NE-RBL one of its key research resources, and has welcomed community dialogue as the laboratory and its programs have developed. The Community Section has more information on these partnerships, and our contact information is available for those with any questions.
