Placing Reaction
This should first be evaluated without vision (tactile placing), then
evaluated with vision. Support the patient under the thorax and cover
the eyes. Bring the thoracic limbs into contact with a table at or ventral
to the animal’s carpus. A normal animal will immediately reach
for the table surface on contact. This should be done with each paw.
When the patient is allowed to see the surface a normal
animal will reach for the table surface before the carpus touches.
