CN IV (Trochlear Nerve)

Function
Eye movement and position through innervation of the dorsal oblique
Assessment

May assess voluntary eye movement or elicit vestibular eye movement by moving the head laterally, medially, up and down to see eye movement. Assessment of this nerve is difficult. With isolated lesions a lateral deviation of the eye can be seen. This can best be appreciated in cows (horizontal pupil) and cats (vertical pupil).
