Myotactic (Stretch) Reflexes

Biceps Reflex

Anatomy and Physiology
This reflex uses the biceps brachii muscle and brachialis muscles, which are flexors of the elbow. They are innervated by the musculocutaneous nerve. The origin of this reflex is C6-C8 in the spinal cord.
Assessment
A finger is placed on the tendons of the two muscles, cranial and proximal to the elbow. The finger is struck. The expected response is a slight flexion of the elbow.
