Myotactic (Stretch) Reflexes

Perineal Reflex

Anatomy and Physiology
The sensory component of this reflex is from the pudendal nerve originating in the S1-S2(3) spinal segment. Anal sphincter contraction is mediated through the motor nerve of the pudendal. Tail flexion is mediated through the caudal nerve.
Assessment
The perineum is lightly stimulated. The stimulus should not be painful. The expected response is a contraction of the anal sphincter and flexion of the tail.
