Admission

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must have completed the equivalent of a bachelor's degree at an accredited college or university. Those with advanced degrees are encouraged to apply. Although there are no specified prerequisite courses, it is expected that competitive applicants to the PhD program will have taken courses that are prerequisites for admission to the Tufts DVM program, as well as additional courses specific to their proposed area of graduate study.

Admission Procedure

Applicants to the PhD program must submit the following:

  1. Graduate Program Application Form

  2. Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended, including undergraduate, graduate, and/or professional school.

  3. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) general test results. The latest acceptable examination is the month before the application deadline. GRE scores are valid for five years; the exam must have been taken within five years of application. More information can be obtained from the Educational Testing Service, CN 6000, Princeton, NJ 08541-6000.

  4. Three letters of evaluation from individuals qualified to evaluate the applicant's potential to engage in and complete a graduate research program. Two of these letters should be from individuals with positions at academic institutions.

  5. A nonrefundable application fee of $75.00.

Applicants from Foreign Countries

In addition to all of the aforementioned documents, foreign applicants must submit:

  1. Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended, in their original language.

  2. Attested English translations of all transcripts, if applicable.

  3. Test results for the Test of English as a Foreign Language(TOEFL) if native language is not English.

Deadline and Contact Information

The application and all supporting materials must be submitted to the Admissions Office by February 1. Admission is based on an evaluation and recommendation by the PhD Committee. An on-campus interview may be required at the request of this committee. The Dean of the School of Veterinary Medicine admits applicants from these recommendations.
