Small Animal Surgery Residency
The Department of Clinical Sciences at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine offers residency positions in Small Animal Surgery. Qualifications include graduation from an accredited College of Veterinary Medicine and completion of an internship program or equivalent experience.
This program presently utilizes the clinical facilities and surgical caseloads of the Foster Hospital for Small Animals located at 55 Willard Street, North Grafton, MA. Cummings School faculty are board certified in their respective areas and provide a formidable source of expertise and knowledge for the self-motivated resident.
The residency is a three year program structured to meet the requirements established by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. It provides clinical training and service responsibility; numerous conferences provide additional academic training. In addition, clinical rotations are provided in radiology, anesthesiology, pathology, critical care and small animal medicine. A rotation may be provided at one of the area's human hospitals, depending upon the resident's area of interest. Residents bear the primary responsibility for emergency surgical coverage.
Residents actively participate in the instruction of veterinary students in the hospital clinics and the spay clinic. Participation in research, leading to acceptance of one major paper for publication is required during the threeyear program. Continuation in the program from year to year is contingent upon satisfactory performance. SemiĀannual evaluations of progress are provided to each resident.
Appointments will be made for 12 months with annual renewal based on satisfactory completion of the previous year. A certificate of residency is awarded to the candidate upon successful completion of the training program. Residents participate in the University benefits programs, including health, professional disability and life insurance. Annual vacation and professional liability insurance are provided.
The applicant should submit his or her application through AAVC's Veterinary Internship and Residency Matching Program.
Tufts University is an affirmative action, equal opportunity employer.
