APPLICATION PROCESS WSSS STUDENTS & RESEARCH AREAS INTERDISCIPLINARY PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/INTERNSHIP (IPE) A Partnership Among Tufts University's: School of Arts and Sciences School of Engineering The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy Medical School The Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy School of Veterinary Medicine |
APPLICATION PROCESS
The WSSS program is open to applicants from a variety of graduate and undergraduate degree programs; in fact, variety and diversity is sought. To join the WSSS Program, a graduate student must first be accepted by and enroll in a graduate program in one of the six participating schools. The student satisfies all the requirements for that department to ensure mastery of one discipline and receives their graduate degree from that department. In addition, the student enrolls in the WSSS Program, where they learn cross- disciplinary skills by taking electives in four broad areas (three of the four for masters-level students, all four areas for doctoral students), attending an unifying seminar series, participating in the Research Practicum during their first year in the WSSS Program and other activities specific to WSSS, undertaking an interdisciplinary professional experience (IPE) or field internship, and conducting interdisciplinary research. Upon completion of these activities, the student is awarded a WSSS Certificate. Simultaneously with their application to a graduate program, the student is requested to submit a form to the Director of the WSSS Program (the form may also be found in the Appendix) indicating their desire to participate in the WSSS Program. This information form does not affect student admission—that is the responsibility of each graduate school—but it provides information to us on possible student interests and enrollment, and allows us to contact applicants about financial aid or grants that the WSSS Program manages. Once the student matriculates, they submit the WSSS enrollment form (also found in the Appendix). Tufts University Departmental application forms are available online at: www.tufts.edu/source/gradprog.html Forms required for enrollment in the WSSS program are available here.
