Routledge Studies in Extremism & Democracy

A relatively new, but nevertheless booming, series.  In the first two years we published seven books on quite a variety of topics within the field of extremism and democracy:

- terrorism in the US (Hewitt)

- uncivil society in post-communist Europe (Kopecky/Mudde)

- Political parties and terrorist groups (Weinberg/Pedahzur) -American extremism (Mulloy)

- Anti-political establishment parties (Abedi)

- Western democracies and the extreme right (Eatwell/Mudde)

- Right-wing extremism and terrorism in US (Michael)

In 2005 we will again published several books on a wide variety of relevant topics.  The first book has already come out, in both hardback and paperback.

Cas Mudde (ed.), Racist Extremism in Central and Eastern Europe, London: Routledge, 2005, 314 pp.

This handbook on racist extremism in Central and Eastern Europe is the result of a unique collaborative research project of experts from the ten new and future post-communist EU member states. All chapters are written to a common framework, making it easier to compare individual countries and include sections on:

* racist extremist organizations (political parties, organizations, and

subcultures)

* the domestic and international legal framework

* numbers and types of racist extremist incidents

* state and civic responses to the threat .

Mudde's conclusion examines the region as a whole and compares it with Western Europe.
