For many, this will be the first newsletter they read as a member of the ECPR Standing Group on Extremism & Democracy. Over the past two months, we have been able to increase the membership of our group from just over 200 to almost 350 - and numbers are still rising! This is partly because of a membership drive, and partly because we decided to expand the field. Previously we had kept the group confined to the study of political extremism in Europe and the West. After discussions with members of the group, we decided to open up the group to scholars of political extremism everywhere. This means that our membership now includes students of, for example:
That said, the group is still dominated by Western scholars of political extremism in the West. To a certain extent, this is reflected in the topics covered in this newsletter - from books reviewed, to articles listed or calls for help. It is our hope that scholars in different areas will help us to broaden the scope of both our group and our newsletter. Firstly, by informing their colleagues and Ph.D students of our group. Secondly, by providing information on conferences, articles, etc. in their sub-field to the editors of e-Extreme. Thirdly, by becoming active as book reviewers or as an associate editor of e-Extreme. We hope you enjoy reading this 6th newsletter and find it useful to your work. Feedback is, as always, highly appreciated.
