This issue has been produced by a
transitionary editorial team. Michael Dartnell has left the editorial team and
will be replaced, from the next issue (4/3, September 2003) onwards, by Jennifer
Holmes (University of Texas at Dallas). We want to thank Michael for all his
hard work for e-Extreme over the past two years.
This is also the
last issue of e-Extreme under my editorship. As Roger Eatwell will take
over as Head of Department at his University, he will step down as co-Chair of
the ECPR Standing Group on Extremism & Democracy during the summer. At least
for the foreseeable future, I will function as the sole Chair of the Standing
Group. Together with the co-editorship of the flourishing Routledge Studies
in Extremism and Democracy book series, this will take up too much of my
time to also be the managing editor of e-Extreme.
As of today, Ami
Pedahzur is the new managing editor of e-Extreme. So far Ami has done an
excellent job as a member of the editorial team, and I am certain that he will
ensure e-Extreme remains a useful resource for the members of the
Standing Group (and others). Ami will be joined on the editorial team by
Jennifer Holmes, while I will stay on (temporarily) as book reviews
editor.
With these changes, I hope we can ensure e-Extreme remains
an important and valued resource for students of extremism and democracy
throughout the world. However, I must warn all members/readers that this has
become increasingly difficult given, on the one hand, the positive development
of the broadening scope of our group, and, on the other hand, the less positive
development of an ever decreasing participation of the
already largely
passive membership.
To enable the new editorial team to make
e-Extreme into the best possible newsletter, I call upon all
members to help them by sharing information. You can be of great help if you
send them calls for papers (for conferences or special issues), links to/reviews
of interesting websites, personal biographies, information on interesting
resources (fellowships, grants, libraries, etc.), the details of your most
recent publications in the field, and review copies of your books. Only as a
group effort can e-Extreme survive!
