Dear Friends,

I am pleased to present to you the winter edition of the E-Extreme Newsletter.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Cas Mudde, who together with Roger Eatwell initiated the ECPR's standing group on Extremism and Democracy, and who served as the Managing Editor and then as the Book Review Editor of the newsletter from the day it was established. The enthusiasm and determination of Cas were the driving force behind this newsletter for a long period, and we all learned a great deal from him. We are really grateful for Cas' guidance and support and promise to do our best to maintain the quality of the newsletter. I would also like to thank Jennifer Holmes, who will assume the responsibilities of Managing Editor this summer, for her devotion and for the excellent work she has done so far. The last word of gratitude goes to our assistant editor, Yael Krivoy, who is making sure that we all function properly and that the newsletter is published on time.
