Improving Domestic Savings Study
A sure way of reducing interest rates, and improving access to credit, is to increase the supply of loanable funds to MFIs. But restrictive minimum balances imposed by larger banks have meant that low income earners are unable to participate in the savings market. The only option for poor individuals to save is through the deposit (or “susu”) collecting scheme. We are working with Sinapi-Aba Trust Bank to design a susu collection scheme that will both improve the efficiency of savings collection and the number of individuals who participate in the susu collection program.
