LIBRARY SITES

The Web is basically a vast collection of disparate types of electronic information: raw data; publications; reports; commentary; and so forth. Not surprisingly, Libraries have emerged as among the most effective org anizations for presenting Web information in a way that is easy to use. It is not surprising because that is the traditional task of libraries: to find, catalog, and organize information in ways that make our research easier.

The following Libraries have done a particularly good job in creating Web pages and links for students of International Studies and Comparative studies. In addition to these, the UC Berkeley maintains a page of links to Library Servers
via the WWW
, which will allow you to link to foreign libraries and peruse their Web resource links.

Finally, the Tisch library at Tufts provides a link to the library catalogs of all libraries in the world.

Political Science Resources: I.R. (University of Michigan)
A very comprehensive site, with initial table of contents and subject classification. Includes separate section on US Foreign Policy.

International Agencies and Information (University of Michigan)
Another comprehensive Michigan site, this one focusing on international organizations, foreign government information, US foreign policy, and International news sources.

International Simulations (University of Michigan)
The name is a misnomer, for this is a very useful general IR site, covering peace, security, defense, human rights, area studies, and much more. Note also that it includes a useful set of guides for students writing research papers!

International Relations Resources (University of British Columbia)
Clear initial table of subjects. Useful to scroll through slowly.

International Affairs Resources (University of Pittsburgh)
Useful for its clear and comprehensive first page and for the descriptions and annotations of the contents in each link.

International Affairs (Yale University)
Clear initial table of contents. In addition to standard resources, links to resources arranged by subject, by region of the world, and to WWW subject guides.

A Further List of Other Library Sites (Richard Deibert, University of Toronto)
Outstanding list.
