As Manager of Academic Systems, I'm responsible for managing the
talented staff that administers
Emerald,
Diamond,
Pearl, and
Opal, the
timesharing systems used for electronic mail, Usenet news, Internet access
(including the Web server that is providing this to you now) and research
computation. I'm also a member of the
Tufts University Web Editorial Board
Prior to joining TCCS in the summer of 1994, I spent many good years at
The Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition
Research Center at Tufts University. As one of the founding staff there,
I created the Division
of Scientific Computing.
I am an OpenVMS guy living
in a Unix
world. I despair for the state of computing and information technology
when a 25
year old operating system is seen as state-of-the-art. Of course, we'll
all soon be experiencing
zero-administration bliss.
I'm a long time member of Computer
Professionals for Social Responsibility, and take an active interest
in issues relating to technology and politics. I'm also a member of
Decus, Usenix
, and SAGE.
