175 Years of Tufts

On April 21, 1852, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts chartered Tufts College. Over the next 175 years, the college grew to become a university with 10 schools and two colleges across four campuses.

This year, Tufts University celebrates this milestone anniversary with on-campus events, a special exhibit at Tisch Library, and an invitation to every member of the Tufts community to participate in a service activity in April.

Our founder, Charles Tufts, "put a light" on the hill to provide an education that would illuminate future pathways for our students. We will continue to advance this legacy to shine a light for all of our students, faculty, alumni, and neighbors for the next 175 years.

Celebrate With Us

Event information will be announced throughout the year. In the meantime, please save these dates for in-person celebrations across our four campuses:

  • Tuesday, April 13: Boston Fenway
  • Wednesday, April 14: Grafton
  • Thursday, April 15: Medford/Somerville
  • Friday, April 16: Boston Health Sciences

We welcome suggestions for events and activities to celebrate our 175th anniversary. Please send your ideas to president@tufts.edu.
